Tribute Gallery is seeking submissions for winter show paying tribute to the oft unrecognized importance of play. Dutch historian and cultural theorist John Huizinga once wrote, "Play is a uniquely adaptive act, not subordinate to some other adaptive act, but with a special function of its own in human experience." Play for Keeps will be a juried show of works on paper. Artists are encouraged to explore the theme from multiple angles, from the innocent delight of fort building to the cathartic release of competition. Even in adult life, when we have so much to loose, we continue to play for keeps. To submit email up to three images and/or additional questions to playforkeeps1.10@gmail.com. Please include media, dimensions, and potential pricing. Sales will be split 50/50% between the artist and the gallery. There will be no entry fee for submission, however all shipping costs must be covered by the artist. Play for Keeps will be juried by guest curators Elizabeth Lamb, White Box Gallery Coordinator and Chloe Gallagher an independent curator and former director of Fenario Gallery, Eugene, OR. There is no limit for media type, but all works should be works on paper, and be ready to hang. Play For Keeps will be held at Tribute Gallery in Old Town Chinatown, Portland, OR from 1/7-30.
