Artists Spotlight: Rose Bond
Rose Bond
director, animator & educator
Recipient 1996, 1998, 2005, 2007 RACC Project Grant; 1996, 2003, 2006 RACC Professional Development Grants
As a teacher, artist, and engaged community leader, Rose Bond is among the most accomplished and engaged artists the region has produced. Her media work has been honored with numerous awards and fellowships from such prestigious agencies as Bloomberg, the American Film Institute, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Princess Grace Foundation, and RACC. In her recent animated installation work she creates public moments and performance venues that shine from the ordinarily darkened interiors of historic buildings. Her hand drawn animations integrate story, architecture and performance in a singularly compelling way. In activating these buildings and the accretions of memory they hold, she beguiles the surrounding urban landscape: sidewalks, cars, streets and alleys into the shadow of the darkened theatre.

Her first acclaimed multi screen public media installation, Illuminations No. 1 (2002) sponsored by the Old Town History Project, was reprised in May 2003. In 2006 she completed a summer residency at the National Film Board of Canada supported by a Princess Grace Special Projects Award (2005) and a Regional Arts & Culture Council Professional Growth Grant (2005).
Since the completion of her first film in 1982 Bond has won numerous awards.
