Collections

The RACC Public Art Program oversees the following collections of permanent artwork for the City of Portland and Multnomah County. To read information about these public artworks go to the Public Art Inventory Database Search. To download a map of over 100 public artworks in Portland, go to Public Art Walking Tour 2007 (pdf).

Permanently Sited
Indoor and outdoor artworks can be found in many locations throughout Multnomah County and the City of Portland -- in parks, along the downtown Transit Mall, in City Hall, police and fire stations, libraries and health clinics. Artwork is selected for its ability to respond to the site’s function and to complement or contrast with the architecture and/or landscape. Search Permanent Collection.

Portable Works
For more than twenty-five years, the City of Portland and Multnomah County have acquired a collection of two and three-dimensional artworks which the Regional Arts & Culture Council manages. Over 900 portable artworks representing hundreds of regional artists are sited throughout approximately thirty City and County buildings. The collection strives to reflect a diversity of populations, artistic disciplines and points of view. Artworks are sited in publicly accessible spaces for a minimum of six months. Search Portable Works Collection.

Visual Chronicle of Portland
The Visual Chronicle of Portland is a city-owned archival collection of works on paper that portrays artists’ ideas, visions, and perceptions of what makes this city unique. A panel of artists, writers, educators, and arts supporters select the Chronicle’s artworks each year. The works are exhibited in city and county buildings. Browse the Visual Chronicle of Portland Collection.

Slides documenting all City and County acquisitions are available for purchase or loan through RACC.
