Arts Partners Initiative Bolstered by PGE Foundation

The PGE Foundation has become the first private sector supporter of Arts Partners by awarding $25,000 to help bring arts education to every K-8 student in the Portland metropolitan area. The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) is the managing partner of this collaborative effort, now entering its second year of planning. PGE Foundation is the corporate foundation of Portland General Electric.

According to PGE Foundation Chair Gwyneth Gamble Booth, “We see this as an opportunity to invest in a partnership that will bring creativity into every child’s education and benefit the entire community.” Arts Partners collaborators include teachers, parents, principals, superintendents, artists, arts organizations, businesses, foundations, and governments. These partners are working together to achieve a measurable impact on learning by integrating the community’s arts and cultural resources into the education of every K-8 student in the region’s school districts.

In the 2008–09 school year, Arts Partners will begin working with 20 school development sites across five school districts including Beaverton, Gresham-Barlow, Hillsboro, North Clackamas and Portland. Support for the past year’s initial planning of Arts Partners has been provided by public funds from the City of Portland, Multnomah County, Clackamas County, Oregon Arts Commission, the City of Hillsboro and the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council. Visit www.racc.org/artspartners for more information.

Through vision, leadership and service the Regional Arts & Culture Council works to integrate arts and culture in all aspects of community life.
