Arts Partners Governing Committee Chair Named

Carol R. Smith has been named the chair of the Arts Partners Governing Committee, a group of community leaders appointed by the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) to oversee the design and implementation of Arts Partners. RACC is the managing partner of the initiative which is designed to bring arts education to every K-8 student in the Portland metropolitan area.

RACC Board Chair Carole Morse made the announcement at the Governing Committee’s first meeting on June 9th. “Carol is perfectly suited for this role with an extensive background in public education and rich experience as a practicing musician.” Carol has been a principal at both the elementary and middle school levels and served as Fine Arts Specialist coordinating art, music, drama and dance curriculum for the Beaverton School District. She holds a Master of Arts degree in music performance and received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a focus on curriculum and instruction. She was a member of the Arts Partners Visioning Committee and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the RACC Board.

The Governing Committee is comprised of educators, government officials, business leaders and philanthropists. Members include Sam Adams, Sarah Boly, Gwyneth Gamble Booth, Linda Hickey, Tom Hughes, Marvin Kaiser, Pamela Knowles, Max Miller, Ron Naso, Jan Robertson, Kathi Robinson, Jim Schlachter, Joan Shipley, Carol R. Smith and Carole Smith.

Arts Partners is collaborative initiative to bring arts education to every K-8 student in the Portland metropolitan area. Collaborators include teachers, parents, principals, superintendents, artists, arts organizations, businesses, foundations, and governments. These partners are working together to achieve a measurable impact on learning by integrating the community’s arts and cultural resources into the education of every K-8 student in the region’s school districts.
