Four Windows, at the Portland Building
June 4-29, 2007
The Regional Arts & Culture Council presents the installation, Four Windows, by Lewis and Clark College student Ely Kahn in the Portland Building Installation Space, June 4-29, 2007. The Portland Building, located at 1120 SW 5th Avenue, is open to the public from 7am - 6pm, Monday through Friday.
With this installation, Kahn uses windows as a metaphor for the lens through which we look at life and explores the concept of “oneness” literally viewed through four different window frames. Looking in each window, the viewer will see the same event/object displayed on a computer monitor but from a different perspective. A thin wall separates each monitor, illustrating the perceived illusion of separateness in people’s perspectives of the world. The artist has written, “It is this false separation that I witness creating great suffering in the world that only understanding of the true oneness can cure.”
Background
Ely Kahn is a B.A. candidate at Lewis and Clark College with a major in liberal arts and graphic design where he received a 2003 Dean’s Scholarship.
Upcoming installations for the Portland Building Installation Space are Ben Stagl, August 13-September 7; Tore Djupedal, September 17-October 12; Noah Nakell, October 22-November 16; Gary Wiseman and T. Reginald Bluebell, November 26-December 21; Becca Bernstein, February 4-29; and Marie Watt, March 10-April 4, 2008.
Through vision, leadership and service the Regional Arts
& Culture Council works to integrate arts and culture in all aspects of
community life.
