Carole Morse Elected Chair of the Board of RACC
On October 31, the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) board of directors elected Carole Morse (at right) as the new Board Chair. Morse is the President of the PGE Foundation, and Manager of Community Investment Initiatives for Portland General Electric. She succeeds Mary Edmeades who has served as the RACC Board Chair since July of 2006.
“We are thrilled that Carole has agreed to lead the RACC Board,” said Eloise Damrosch, Executive Director of RACC. “She is a strong leader and a tireless advocate for arts and culture who can surely help us reach new levels of service, support and visibility.”
At Portland General Electric, Carole Morse manages charitable contributions and community involvement for the company, and she is President of the company’s corporate foundation. Before joining PGE in 1995, Morse served as director of executive appointments for Governor Barbara Roberts, advising the Governor on her appointments to state boards, commissions and the judiciary.
Through her volunteer work with RACC, Northwest Business for Culture & the Arts (NW/BCA), and a wide variety of other local arts organizations over the past few years, Morse has helped usher in a period of new growth and recognition for the local arts community. Morse served as the Chair of NW/BCA from 2004 to 2006 and was a charter member of the RACC-NW/BCA “Work for Art” campaign cabinet that is establishing workplace giving campaigns that support the arts in companies throughout the metro region.
Morse has been on the RACC Board since 2005 and was elected its Vice Chair in 2006. She serves on the steering committee for Arts Partners, a coalition of organizations that are working to return arts education to K-12 schools. Morse was recognized for her long and impressive record of advocacy in arts education in 2007 by receiving the Sunburst Award from Young Audiences of Oregon.
Morse is also working with the Oregon Business Council to add the arts into the Oregon Business Plan, joining education, healthcare, transportation and sustainability as OBP initiatives. Morse has served on the boards of the Equity Foundation and Grantmakers of Oregon and Southwest Washington, and is the current Board Chair for Employers for Education Excellence (E3).
In her new duties as chair for the RACC Board, Morse will preside over several initiatives that endeavor to bring more support to the local arts and culture community, adding measurable value to our region and quality of life. Through vision, leadership and service the Regional Arts
& Culture Council works to integrate arts and culture in all aspects of
community life.
