The Regional Arts & Culture Council
rebrands its workplace giving program;
Work for Art debuts this month
The Regional Arts & Culture Council has announced a new name and logo for its workplace giving program, which raises money for 70 local arts organizations. Work for Art debuts this month, along with a new website, www.workforart.org.
“After a year and a half of running workplace giving campaigns under the name ‘Regional Arts & Culture Fund,’ we felt it was time to differentiate this program from the other work we do at the Regional Arts & Culture Council, and to give this campaign a fun personality all its own,” stated Jeff Hawthorne, Director of Community Affairs for the Regional Arts & Culture Council. “This name helps us convey in an instant that we are asking area employees to consider a small deduction from their paycheck that will support our vibrant but under-funded local arts and culture community.”
The goal of Work for Art is to increase private support and public awareness for arts and culture. This year, employees at 25 Portland area businesses will learn about the programs being offered by local arts organizations and be given the opportunity to contribute to these groups through payroll deduction or online credit card donations. Participating companies include 5th Avenue Suites Hotel, Hampton Affiliates, Multnomah County, Oregon Health & Sciences University, PacifiCorp, Portland General Electric, Portland Oregon Visitors Association, Zimmer Gunsul Frasca, and the Cities of Beaverton, Lake Oswego, and Portland.
Employees who contribute at least $60 ($5/month) will receive the new Work for Art Card, which provides a year of discounts, including two-for-one tickets and other special offers, at more than 20 local arts organizations – including Artist’s Rep, Chamber Music Northwest, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Oregon Children’s Theatre, Oregon Symphony, Portland Art Museum, Portland Center Stage, and White Bird. Donors also receive e-newsletter updates on Portland’s arts and entertainment scene, with additional special offers accessible with the Card.
Local arts organizations with 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status access Work for Art proceeds by applying for a General Support Grant or Project Grant from RACC (guidelines and applications are available online at www.racc.org/grants). Through this established process, which distributes government funding as well, organizations are adjudicated by a panel of community representatives and scored on a variety of factors including artistic excellence, proven service to the community, and fiscal responsibility.
The 2005-06 campaign continues through the spring. John Hampton of Hampton Affiliates is Honorary Chair and Mary Edmeades of Albina Community Bank is the Campaign Chair. For more information on running a campaign or to make a contribution, visit www.workforart.org, or contact Sara Gummere at 503-823-5424.
The Work for Art logo (see page 3) and its tagline, “Funding the arts is everyone’s business,” were developed by Don Rood, Jake Murray and Paul Mort of The Felt Hat, a local design firm. This rebranding effort was paid for through a generous grant from the Oregon Cultural Trust, with much in-kind support from The Felt Hat.
The Regional Arts & Culture Council is a local arts service organization established in 1995 to serve Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington Counties. Its mission is to integrate arts and culture in all aspects of community life through vision, leadership, and service. For more information, visit www.racc.org.
