saturated pasture at the Portland Building
July 17 – August 11, 2006
The Regional Arts & Culture Council presents the installation, saturated pasture, by Portland artist Jenene Nagy in the Portland Building Installation Space, July 17-August 11, 2006. The Portland Building, located at 1120 SW 5th Avenue, is open to the public from 7am - 6pm, Monday through Friday.
saturated pasture re-evaluates the constructed landscape and our relationship to it. Mundane materials such as house paint, styrofoam and painted nails create an invented space dripping with color and texture. Forests and ponds grow out of that which is commonly overlooked or discarded. Nagy plays off the idea of traditional landscape painting, inventing her own interpretation of the concept. The results are quirky, playful, and unexpected.
Background
Jenene Nagy is currently an artist-in-residence at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland and also teaches in the Art Department at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. She received her M.F.A. in Ceramics and Sculpture from the University of Oregon. Solo exhibitions of her work include the Manuel Izquierdo Gallery in Portland and the Lavern Krauss Gallery in Eugene. Her work has also been included in group shows at Ohio State University in Marion and Dinnerware Contemporary Art Gallery in Tucson.
Sponsored by the Regional Arts & Culture Council since 1994, the Installation Art Series at the Portland Building invites the general public to re-examine its expectations and definitions of art, encourage dialogue about the role of art in public spaces, and provide artists with alternative exhibition space for their work. Artists featured through 2006 include Rachel Siegel, August 21-September 15; Adam Kuby, September 25-October 20; Rhoda London, October 30-November 24; all the art that fits: City/County employees art exhibit, December 1-January 5, 2007; Carolina Aragon, January 15-February 9, 2007; and Susan Gladstone, February 19-March 16, 2007.
Through vision, leadership and service the Regional Arts
& Culture Council works to integrate arts and culture in all aspects of
community life.
