Porous Borders
a temporary installation
May 9-June 3, 2005

The Regional Arts & Culture Council presents the installation, Porous Borders, by Portland artists, Brenda Mallory and Fei Disbrow, in the Portland Building lobby installation Space, May 9-June 3, 2005. The Portland Building, located at 1120 SW 5th Avenue, is open to the public from 7am - 6pm, Monday through Friday.

By using everyday materials and forms in unexpected ways, Mallory and Disbrow move beyond familiar visual territory. Combining their distinctive conceptual approaches and knowledge of material, the artists will create a space frozen in time. The site will be transformed into a fantastical place with variously shaped protuberances morphing out of the walls and expelling into the space and onto the floor.

Brenda Mallory earned her B.F.A. from Pacific Northwest College of Arts. She has had solo exhibitions at Clark College’s Archer Gallery in Vancouver and at Ogle Gallery in Portland. Group exhibitions where her work was included include "artObjects:PDX" and the 10th Anniversary Show at Mark Woolley Gallery. Fei Disbrow earned her Masters of Fine Arts in sculpture from the Cranbrook Art Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She also studied printmaking at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland. She has exhibited her work in Bloomfield Hills, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Portland and the Republic of Macedonia.

Background
Sponsored by the Regional Arts & Culture Council since 1994, the Installation Art Series at the Portland Building invites the general public to re-examine its expectations and definitions of art, encourage dialogue about the role of art in public spaces, and provide artists with alternative exhibition space for their work. For more information, contact RACC at 503.823.5111.

Through vision, leadership and service the Regional Arts & Culture Council works to integrate arts and culture in all aspects of community life.
