Summer Teen Program Call for Applications Focus on Native American Art and Culture (8/10-24). The A. Susana Santos' Journeys in Creativity program introduces teens to the richness of Native American art and tradition through hands-on art workshops, museum field trips, and live performances. 16 teenagers will be chosen to embark on a journey through the remarkable world of Native American art and culture. This creative, cross-cultural exploration is provided by Oregon College of Art and Craft (OCAC) and takes place on its wooded campus in Portland, Oregon. The program is free to the selected participants, including housing, food, materials, and instruction. The Journeys 2008 camp focus is the Art of the Canoe. Students will delve into the world of traditional Native American aquatic transportation. Over the past two thousand years the canoe has been an essential tool for the livelihood of natives. Canoe shapes and designs have changed little over the centuries, as native cultures created elaborate cultural practices, ceremonies and taboos surrounding their use and care. OCAC is now accepting applications for the 2008 Journeys program. Applications are available online at www.ocac.edu. For more information, contact Journeys in Creativity Program Manager Shirod Younker at 503.297.5544 ext. 148 or email syounker@ocac.edu. Deadline: 5/23/08.

Classics for Kids Foundation provides matching grants that help bring new, exceptionally fine stringed instruments and mentoring with world-renowned musicians to children while strengthening local community support for music education. The instruments provided through the support of our donors are beyond the reach of most music programs and young musicians. CFKF instruments excite children with their ease of playing and exceptional tone, inspiring them to have fun learning, practice more, and enjoy their instrument. Our renowned mentors further the connection between students and their instruments and between communities and their music programs. Matching grants are open to new and established music programs nationally that serve children grades 3 through 12. Matching instrument grants typically range from $5,000-$40,000. Complete guidelines and applications can be provided by emailing the Foundation at cfkids@classicsforkids.org or contact Surale Phillips or Nyda Gilbertson, Classics for Kids Foundation, PO Box 1537, Bozeman, MT 59771, Phone: 406.587.8183, www.classicsforkids.org.
